This collection for Villa Bologna Pottery was inspired by the baroque forms of Italian sculpture and the more austere designs of Ancient Greece, incorporating the flouncing leaves that sprout from the top of a pineapple, and stylised rolling waves reminiscent of a temple frieze.

 

In the course of the collaboration, Alvaro had the pleasure of visiting the Villa Bologna Pottery workshop in Malta to teach their local artists, Luca and Irena, how to paint his bespoke designs. He was able to pass on his knowledge and love of the craft, and keep the individual, hand-painted style that is so key to all his work.
